Meet the Author of "The Third Reason": J.B. Villegas

The summary of The Third Reason

A story of love that was never meant to live yet refused to die … Set against the backdrop of one of the most tragic events in Philippine history—the imposition of the Martial Law Regime in 1972—and a seemingly innocent yet an equally enigmatic story for children, the novel focuses on Lisa Rubio, a woman haunted by her deprived childhood, a lost love, and a broken identity after her incarceration during the President Marcos regime. Resolute and strong-willed, she slowly resurrects from her bitterness and disillusionment against life’s baffling questions, the deceit and trappings of the adult world that she learned to despise. By excelling in academics and in her chosen career as a woman of science, she regains a sure footing and rebuilds her shattered self. But fate has other plans, in the person of a young man named Leo. Thus begins yet another painful journey of her self-doubt, psychological trepidation and moral dilemma. Lisa’s psychiatrist helps her navigate and dissect her emotional turmoil at falling for a boy half her age. “Here is a brilliant woman who studies the stars, who stands on the shoulders of Galileo, but peeps through the eyes of Ichabod,” as Dr. Mores allegorically described Lisa’s person. Yet, when despair takes her almost to the brink, salvation comes from an unexpected stranger—Professor Justin Pullin, a man whom Lisa distrusts. With stoic calm and gentle prudence, the professor leads Lisa through a deep introspection and to the wisdom behind suffering that is almost too heavy for the human heart to bear. Just when she resolves to make a right decision, a restless and capricious fate taunts her again: a strange twist of reality brings her and Leo together, and now that they are both adults, their restrained love is suddenly freed and opens like a floodgate. That fateful meeting, however, proves to be Lisa’s adamant yet ultimate act of love, a poignant redemption afforded her by the third reason.

Elizabeth Sumajit-Kleine has found us!

When I opened my Facebook page tonight, I was surprised to receive a friend request from a certain Elizabeth Kleine. When I opened her FB page, I was even more surprised to see a familiar face: Elizabeth Sumajit!!!

I have been looking for Elizabeth for the longest time. Kaya pala di lumalabas sa Google ang name niya pag nagsearch ako kasi Mrs. Kleine na siya! Years ago, I was able to meet his brother who drove a taxi unit here in Gensan. He told me Elizabeth is already married to a  foreigner and they are raising sheep in Australia. Unfortunately, he doesn't have her mailing/email address. So from time to time, I would Google her name and those of our other kabatch in the hope of finding them in the internet.

And so it was Elizabeth who found me instead. And it was a very pleasant surprise indeed! :)

Elizabeth opened her FB account (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000973548697) on April 6, 2010 and her first status update was:
I'm excited to use Facebook! Now I can find my friends and family from overseas and I hope for more friends from different countries :)
Now that she found us, I guess her wish has come true!
New message from Elizabeth:
Hi! Long time no see, long time no hear... kumusta naman kayo?
I got married last 1986 in Manila, Philippines and now residing in Australia for 24 yrs. Nakakauwi din ako last 2008 and last year para mag holiday para makita ko ang pamilya ko, relatives and some friends...
I hope sana sa reunion uli baka sakali makapunta ako but just let me know 1 year before para naman maka prepare.
Kumusta kayong lahat diyan and regards lalo na sa mga ka batch natin, classmates and friends....
Welcome to our batch, Elizabeth! It's good to have you back to the fold. :)
Here are some photos shared by Elizabeth in her FB photo albums:

Financial Report for 37th Reunion

Our Kabatch Vickee Gonzaga-Firmalino has already submitted the financial report for last year's 37th Reunion to the Core Group.  Please click the link below to read the financial report in PDF format.

NDD Batch '73 Collection & Expense Report

Sheet 1 contains the list of those who have given contributions and pledges and the corresponding amounts received.

As can be seen in Sheet 2, we have a net balance of P48,656.47, of which P3,656.47 is on hand (care of Vickee) while the amount of P45,000 has been deposited in a Land Bank of the Philippines savings account here in Gensan with Nelia De Guzman-Soriano and Danilo Sanchez as joint signatories.

It was decided by the Core Group that while we are still thinking of ways to invest the said amount in secure high-yielding investment(s) with  assistance from our banker-Kabatch Susan Guatlo-Acosta, the said amount should be deposited in a savings account.

The purpose of finding a secure high-yielding investment is that if we can make the money grow in two years time, we may be able to hold our next reunion without asking for contributions/pledges from our Kabatch.

Thanks for your continued support, trust and confidence! :)
